Seams of Time: Eloise Sweetman in Conversation
Public talk facilitated by Mia Palmer-Verevisunderscore Gallery & Studios
Through an ongoing endeavour to disrupt the traditional pace and duration of exhibition making, Fremantle-born, Rotterdam/Berlin-based curator Eloise Sweetman’s practice uniquely redefines the ways we encounter artworks. As described by artist and collaborator Jo-ey Tang, Sweetman’s work takes ‘apart the seams of time and space in what constitutes an exhibition’. In 2018, she co-founded Shimmer, a curatorial studio in Rotterdam that platforms experimental curatorial practice and seeks to dissolve temporal boundaries and institutional constraints. Alongside projects at Shimmer, Sweetman’s independent curatorial and writing practice has evolved through an interwoven web of ideas, relationships, research and criticality. In conversation with curator Mia Palmer-Verevis, Sweetman returns to Perth to discuss the origins of this work, the evolution of her curatorial process and its endurance across disparate contexts and collaborative relationships with artists.
